Maa's Secret Bengali Fish Curry Recipe: A Traditional Delight with Bori and Spices!



Easy Bengali Fish Curry with Bori


One of the Evening as I sat in the balcony , watching the sunset . The sky was painted with hues of crimson and gold and I was relishing by thinking of my childhood memories . Growing up in a traditional Bengali household, I was always fascinated by the way my mother, Maa, could conjure up the most delicious meals with the simplest of ingredients.

One of my favorite childhood memories was of Maa's Bengali Fish Curry, made with tender fish pieces, crispy bori (dried lentil dumplings), and a medley of vegetables like potato and brinjal. The aroma of mustard oil and spices wafting from the kitchen, bound us to wait for the dining hour .

Bengali Fish Curry Recipe with Bori


Ingredients:


500g fish pieces (preferably Rohu or Katla)

2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced

1 large brinjal, diced

1/2 cup bori (dried lentil dumplings)

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon red chili powder

1 teaspoon mustard paste ( optional )

Salt, to taste

2 tablespoons mustard oil 

Fresh cilantro, for garnish

2 cups water


Instructions:


1. Heat oil in a deep frying pan and fry the bori until golden brown. Drain and set aside.

2. In the same oil, add the diced potatoes and brinjal, and sauté for 5 minutes.

3. Add the fish pieces, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.

4. Add the mustard paste and 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil.

5. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until the fish is cooked through.

6. Add the fried bori and simmer for another 2-3 minutes.

7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with steaming hot rice.
