Those were the days when people dismissed sprouts and greens as being cattle food! Health professionals are increasingly recommending that people eat sprouts which are wasier to digest , lower in calories and richer in Nutrients than dry pulses & seeds . 

Enough reasons to bother about sprouts ! The process of germination or sprouting brings about many remarkable changes in the seeds .

Here are some ways in which sprouts are beneficial :

This is a kind of innovative Sprout recipe . Use mixed sprout to toss up a quick misal and serve it with whole wheat bread or rice . Sprouting increases the calcium content of pulses and also aids digestion .

Preparation Time : 10 minutes 
Cooking Time: 5 minutes 
Serves : 4 

Ingredients : 

2 cups mixed sprouts , boiled 
1 tsp olive oil 
2 tsp cumin seeds 
1 tsp ginger - green chilli paste 
1/4 tsp cloves powder
1/4 tsp Cinnamon powder 
A pinch of Sugar 
Salt to taste 

For the topping : 

1 cup whisked curds 
1/4 cup chopped onions 
1/4 cup chopped tomatoes 
2 tbsp chopped coriander 

Preparation Method : 

  • Heat the oil in a non-stick pan , add the cumin seeds .
  • When the seeds crackle , add the ginger green chilli paste & saute on a medium flame for a while .
  • Add the mixed sprouts , clove powder , Cinnamon powder , sugar & salt and cook for 2 minutes. 
  • Serve the sprout mixture topped with the Curds , Onions , Tomatoes & Coriander .
