Methi Matar Malai | Creamy Fenugreek Leaves Gravy with Green Peas | North Indian Dish

Today sharing a very famous recipe from North India. Methi Matar Malai. I will keep it in 2nd position after Palak Paneer only. It has an own flavors which are coming from its ingredients. Its blended with some rich and royal ingredients which are also easily available in markets too. In my home party I always prefer to put this exotic dish to give some unique touch in My menu list. And after preparing this dish I get some appreciations which are just priceless to me.Originally I got  this recipe from my Mom. The main combination she used that methi with green peas or spinach with green peas. So took the chances to give an experimental taste with the combination of famous recipe from North India. And I think I succeed .

In case about nutritional benefits it gives a full nutritional values as all of the ingredients used ich in here is very healthy. It is rich in iron,calcium,protein,carbohydrates,minerals,fibre etc. So it is a Healthy and Tasty side dish too.




Methi Matar Malai | Creamy Fenugreek Leaves with Green Peas

Cook time: 25 mins

Ingredients
  • 1 Cup Green Peas Blached
  • 3/4 Cup Fresh Fenugreek Leaves
  • 1/2 Cup Spinach Paste Blanched
  • 1/2 Cup Grated Paneer/cottage cheese (after soaking in hot water with little salt)
  • 1/2 Cup Fresh Cream
  • 2 tbsp Milk Powder
  • 2 tbsp Yogurt
  • 1 Cup Tomato Puree Blanched
  • 1/2 Cup Onion Paste blanched
  • 1 tbsp Garlic Paste
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger Paste
  • 1 tsp Green Chili paste
  • 2 tbsp Coriander Seeds (dry)
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper (dry)
  • 1 tbsp Cumin seeds (dry)
  • 1 tsp Fennel Seeds (dry)
  • 1 Black Cardamoms (dry)
  • 2 Star Anise (dry)
  • 1" Cinnamon Stick (dry)
  • 1 pinch Nutmeg powder (dry)
  • 2-3 Cloves (dry)
  • 2 Green Cardamoms (dry)
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 4 tbsp White Oil
  • Salt to taste
Cooking Directions
  1. Marinate fenugreek leaves with turmeric powder and salt for 15 mins,to go away bitterness.
  2. Then wash it again,blanch and grind it into mixi.
To make Garam Masala :
  • Roast all dry spices and grind it into fine powder.
  1. Now put one kadai on gas stove.
  2. Heat oil and Butter both.
  3. Add Bay leaf.
  4. Add garlic and ginger paste and saute until raw smell goes.
  5. Add onion paste and green chili and fry for a while.
  6. Add tomato puree and mix well.
  7. Add garam masala powder and fry for a while.
  8. Now add spinach puree and fenugreek puree and mix well.
  9. Add yogurt and keep stirring for 2 mins.
  10. When oil comes out add milk powder,cashew paste and little warm water/milk.
  11. Now add grated paneer to it and salt to taste.
  12. Now add green peas.
  13. Let it give to boil.
  14. Once boiling add fresh cream and switch off the gas.
  15. Serve Methi Matar Malai with naan/paratha/rice/chapathi.

That fenugreek leaves can't be found over here but I am thinking of another which will match for such a thick and inviting dish.
