Spicy Pumpkin | Kumro Chokka | A Bengal Curry

Today sharing a Bengal famous Spicy pumpkin recipe for you. Its really a tasty one. And goes well with Chapathi or Roti or Poori as side dish. Its a simple ,easy and quick recipe. In this recipe pumpkin (Kumro in Bengali )is used for the main ingredient. With pumpkin you can add little potato and green peas also. As pumpkin is using so much so its a healthy too. From my bengal kitchen its really an Authentic and Traditional pure Vegetarian side dish. It has some specific spices so you will not get the real taste if you are not using that specific spices.I got this recipe from my Mom . She is my special cook for any Homely cooking recipe. In my childhood I ate it for so many times specially in Holidays. In bengal Sunday is one of the best day for any thing special cooking and eating. So I remind on sunday in Breakfast we usually had poori and this spicy pumpkin curry .

Spicy Pumpkin Curry | Kumro Chokka | A Bengal Curry



Ingredients
  • 4 Cups Pumpkin Cubes
  • 2 Cups Potato Cubes
  • 1 Cup Green Peas (boiled)
  • 1 tsp Onion Seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  • 1 tsp Fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds / Radhuni Seeds
  • 1 chopped Green chili
  • 1 Dry Red Chili
  • 3 tsp Roasted Cumin powder
  • 2 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1 handful Chopped Coriander Leaves
  • Sugar to taste
  • 3 tbsp Mustard oil / White Oil
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • 2 tsp Ginger paste
Cooking Directions
  1. Heat oil in a Kadai.
  2. Add bay leaf and dry red chili.
  3. Add onion seeds,cumin seeds,fennel seeds,fenugreek seeds,mustard seeds or radhuni seeds. When aroma comes out.
  4. Add Ginger paste.
  5. Add Potato, fry for sometimes.
  6. Add Pumpkin cubes and green peas.
  7. Add Salt and sugar to taste.
  8. Add turmeric powder and saute a little.
  9. Sprinkle little water with your hand if you want.
  10. Cover with a lid and cook for 2-3 mins.
  11. Once vegetables cooked well, sprinkle roasted cumin powder, mix well.
  12. Switch off gas stove.
  13. Add finely chopped coriander leaves and green chili and cover for 2 mins.
  14. Now spicy pumpkin curry is ready to serve.
